Deployment overview — schematic

Challenge

A 40-building campus was running a wireless estate end-of-life on two generations of access points, with per-building switch closets from mixed vendors and no centralized visibility.

Dense lecture-hall usage kept colliding with surveillance and IoT traffic on the same unmanaged segments.

Solution

Refreshed access with W718AP Wi-Fi 7 ceiling APs in academic buildings and W768OAP outdoor units for quads and sports facilities.

Consolidated closets onto S5700-48GP-4TFR-700W Layer 3 access with S6700-48GXP-4TF-2QF units in high-density halls, powering APs and cameras from the same rows.

Moved management to Apollo cloud with a FAC1024PMR controller, giving the university team one visual topology across wired and wireless.

Results

  • 40 buildings brought onto a single wired + wireless platform with one management plane.
  • Wi-Fi 7 capacity covers dense lecture-hall populations; AI VLAN/QoS modes keep surveillance and IoT traffic segmented.
  • Operations shifted from per-closet CLI work to zero-touch onboarding and centralized firmware policy.
